1.
Disconnect main power (when fuses are in use, pull main fuses). |
2.
Remove the breaker (fuse) box cover.
3.
Turn off the breaker marked electric range.
NOTE: If an electric range circuit is not available, connect the power filter (surge arrester)
to the load side of any two pole circuit
breaker, preferably a condensing unit circuit or a circuit that has a
continous use. See note #1 at bottom of
page before continuing.
4.
Use test lamp to confirm that the breaker (fuse) terminals are turned off.
5.
Cut arrester leads to desired length for installation.
Measure for correct length by holding
surge arrester to mounting point and holding
wire to connection point. Allow approximately
one extra inch of wire for connection to the
terminals and cut remainder of wire off. Leads
should be as short as possible.
6.
Strip about 1/2 inch of insulation from all surge arrester leads.
7.
The dedicated lines that you plan to protect with the secondary surge
arrester may be connected
to a breaker or fuse with terminals accepting
only one wire. The recommended procedure is
to splice surge arrester and dedicated line wires
together with a wire nut. (A special wire nut
may be required in some installations). Install
only one wire, as designed, to the breaker or
fuse (see illustration below).
8.
Attach surge arrester to sidewall of panelboard
with enclosed mounting tab
and strap.
9.
Connect wires of surge arrester according to the
wiring
schematic on the back of this page. (Refer to #7 of this instruction sheet and to splicing illustration at the bottom of this page.)
10.
Check all connections for mechanical tightness then,
replace breaker (fuse) box cover.
11.
Turn on: (A) circuit breaker; (B) main breaker.
(If fuses are in use: (A) reinstall circuit fuses; (B)
reinstall main fuses).
